I paint mainly in watercolour
as I find that this allows me to indulge a passion for sunlight and
shadow, for skies and for reflections in water. I want the painting to
convey the rush of water in the spate river, to capture the serenity
of a Cumbrian lakeside when there is no one else there and to see the
first snowfall of autumn against the colours of the turning trees and
the backdrop of snow on the mountains.
In all paintings, the greatest challenge for me is to create the
atmosphere and mood, wherever it is.
Having always lived in Gloucestershire, I have an inbuilt love of the
countryside, the stone, the pretty villages and the hills. Many of my
paintings also depict scenes of faraway places which I find different,
inspiring, exciting and unspoilt."
