To Finland With Love
I was not afraid
when I first met you.
I did not feel your cold
Or your loneliness.
You were my coming home.
Instead, I opened my arms
To your wilderness,
And my heart,
To your beauty.
When I walked
amongst your whiteness
Passed the grasses on the lake,
And the pink granite of your rocks
I breathed in your sunshine
And let my lungs fill
With the icy glow of Winter.
When I visited your
artist’s home
I climbed some old wooden stairway
To the very top.
I closed my eyes wishing
I had been there years before,
To look out on the lake
And the Pines,
That grew so tall
among the Silver Birch,
And paint like those who had gone before.
But I will be back,
I will return to love you more
Because my heart has found you,
Another.
beauty I can long for
And one I cannot ignore.
